August 23rd..
Wow..another month almost gone!
Things are sorta "lookin' up" as far as our giggin' dates go.. Got several coming up in September.
First, we want to thank our sister-in-law, Millie, for the great job she did keepin' brother Sherman's 65th Birthday Party a Surprise! Me, Susie, brother J.W., Sister-in-law Sandy, Little Sister, Darlene, and Niece, Lacy, made the trek way up to Tulsa this past Saturday as a comlete surprise for the big party... They held it at the Elks Lodge in Sapulpa, Okla...and there were a whole passle of "senior lookin'" folks there! Sherman and Millie belong to a Single Action Shooters Club, and I felt right at home (bein' born a hundred years too late) with all the Ol' Timey dressed up folks there! They also had a Veteran's Appreciation Day celebration goin' on, (which Sherman knew a little about), and the nice folks from the Elks gave all Veterans present a nice little Certificate thankin' us for our service! (See "Awards & Stuff" Page on this site).
Everybody treated us like kinfolks.. and other than the band hired for the Elks party not playin' much "real Country, for us "seniors".. it went really well!
As for the gig catchin' up part.. we're goin' back to Highland Pines Nursing Center in Longview, Texas on the 3rd of Sept.. first time back there in a couple of years.. Then, Saturday, the 4th, we're booked at a really neat place called The Purple Pig Cafe just South of Tyler, Texas. Been trying to get that one for about a year or so.. Sunday, the 5th, we're gonna be doin' our 3rd "return engagement" at the VFW in Longview, Texas...Then we'll be doin' every other Sunday there till the run us off! So far, they like us... Last, but not least, for September, we'll be doin' a "pickin' for the Seniors" at Southwood Rehab Center in Henderson, Texas on the 28th. Long time since we were there also..
So.. guess we'll see y'all down the road soon..

August 9th...
We picked last night at the VFW Post in Longview, Texas. First time back there in quite a while!
They've got new management, new Post Commander, and they also had some really nice folks in attendance for our show. We played our usual Texas Honky Tonk Music, and they proved that it's still extremely popular amongst the "Common Folk"!
We got invited back, plus, if we want, we can have every other Sunday for a while. If y'all are in the neighborhood..like somewhere in East, North, SouthEast, or Middle Texas, and other lesser parts around, come on out and join us.. FREE Admission, and a good time!
Plus... we also got a couple of dates confirmed for two Senior Centers close by. September 3rd, we'll be returning to Highland Pines Center, in Longview, and the 28th at Southwood Center in Henderson, Texas. Y'all can come to these events if you'd like.. they enjoy having company!
C U all down the Road.

July 31st..
Well.. another month done passed by.. But this time, we've actually got GIGS booked for the next couple of weeks anyway. First.. we're gonna go back over to the Longview Texas VFW Post on August 8th.. been invited to come pick for the nice Vets and Families.. Maybe it'll turn out to be worth our while this time..hope so! Then, on Friday the 13th.. (my lucky days), we're booked at a real nice venue called Lakeview Lodge, in Athens, Texas. It's a first for us there, and they say that their customers like to dance.. We'll see!
Still workin' on gettin' me and Grammaw out and on our on again.. We have discovered over time that we just do a LOT better livin' by ourselves!
Come See Us Out on The Road Soon!

July 11th
Okay.. we're gettin' lax about keepin' up here.. but time seems to be goin by faster than we think!
Still lookin' for bookin's.. not much set so far.. but a couple of really good leads may pan out.
We did find a really great new venue just the other side of Tyler that is really somethin' different from most venues around here! It's called Moore's Country Store, an old completely redone General Store from the old days, in Downtown Ben Wheeler, Texas. Great old timey atmosphere, and really good bands being booked. We hope to get included soon!
Also got to meet some great pickers last night, a group calling themselves "Zydeco Stingrays". .. doin' Cajun stuff mixed with a rockin' sound.. They can really tear up a stage! Y'all get a chance. check 'em out. But.. don't forget to come see us wherever we might happen to be!
CU down the road..

June 11th.. Not Much Update..
Just figured we'd get this thing a little more up to date.. Okay.. now it's done.
Still waitin' on some folks to get back to us about possible bookings.. they're really draggin' their feet right now..
More later.

June 4th...Not In Branson!
We're now back in East Texas... Branson turned out to have a few too many problems with licenses and permits.. Wasn't worth all that.. so.. we're regrouping sortof... will have somewhere to go real soon...
For now.. we've booked back at our favorite little neighborhood bar & grill, the former Tootie's.. now "Reynolds" Bar & Grill.. New owners seem determined to make it work.. we'll see. We booked tomorrow night, the 5th.. They decided they wanted to "try" "Karryokie" on Fridays...but the manager, Maggie, and most of the regulars are not happy bout that!
Y'all come see us

May 13th, We're In Branson!!
Well.. took off about 7:30am yesterday.. drove straight thru Arkansas all the way, and on into Branson about 6:30pm. With not too much trouble, we found the hotel, met the great folks runnin' it, got set up in a "temporary" room (until Saturday, when our Suite Type room will be available). Went out and found McDonalds and WalMart.. we're set!
Sorta lazed around today after gettin' up about 7:30am so as not to miss the free breakfast, then unloaded the band stuff, set it up, and am now layin' around waitin' to go down and pick a while about 7:30 or so. Managers told us that we can set it up however we think best.. so we're tryin' to figure out what would be the maximum crowd time.. We'll get it I reckon.
Have never been into "downtown" Branson, been around it a whole bunch a while back, we are amazed at how pretty it is! Not too happy with driving up and down the HILLS all around here, but at least it's not Winter.. Got a great big lake we have got to check out SOON.. Brought all our fishin' gear.. Actually brought everything we needed.. as we've been training to do for a while now.
Will let all two of you "loyal" readers of this mess know how it goes later on!
Don & Sue..
May 3rd.. Countdown to Branson Continues...
As the days just seem to drag by.. (mostly) we're gettin' more and more pumped about headin' out to Missouri.. (not so much the state..but Branson!) We've been wantin' to go there ever since it became "famous".. and now we're gonna get to do so!
Tryin' like crazy to get rid of everything that won't fit in the van and equipment trailer.. That problem got "amplified" humongusly when we "inherited" all the "Stuff" from Sue's old Homeplace in Louisiana!! "Amplified" is an understatement! We now own more stuff than we've ever owned before.. none of which we need to keep!! If anybody needs or wants some "old" stuff.. contact us soon! We need to move it out! Suffice to say, Susan's Mother never threw away "ANYTHING"! Don't know whether we've ever told y'all, but Bobbie Jane (M-I-Law) moved out of her "homeplace house" in the 80's to live with her Sister in Huntsville, but she never stopped the utilities, phone, nor anything.. never moved any furniture..nothin! for about 25 Years!.. Before she passed away..she also never really indicated exactly what each of the 3 daughters were to "inherit".. Let's just say...we've already hauled out two flat-bed trailer loads..and we're supposed to go back "one more time" to get what's left still! I suggested Burning the whole damn thing.. didn't go over...
We just sat two days out front of our Daughter's house.. tryin' to have a yard sale.. did fair on the first day.. but didn't move much at all of the "big stuff".. Second day.. turned a totol of about 4 or 5 items.. "cleared" $3.00! It's now all still settin' beside our daughter's house.. covered with tarps.. all the "big stuff" still on our son-in-law's trailer.... Advertised this morning on our local radio station's "Swap & Shop" (got 3 calls.. no buyers) Advertised yesterday on "Craig's List".. got a few "real" emails.. a whole passle of "Junk Mail" that Craigslist seems to generate more than it should! Okay.. enough about that.. WE'RE GOIN' TO BRANSON... IF THE STUFF DON'T SELL... WE'RE GONNA PROBABLY GIVE IT AWAY OR SOMETHIN'' Don't want nothin' keepin' us from doin' this!!
Y'all watch for us on the highways of Arkansas.. later this week!
Don & Sue
April 13th.. Happy Birthday to Me... And Granddaughter, Susanna!. She's 11, I'm way
older than that!
Been sorta a Hectic week.. Gettin' all antsy about headin' to Branson in a couple or so weeks.. It's somethin' we've been wantin' to do for quite some time now.. so.. here we go..
Got a little bit more done as far as gettin' the "new" rollin' motel van squared away for the trip.. We've just finished (along with most of the work done by son-in-law, Lalo) a custom-made bed platform installed with room enough for a full-size mattress ..which gives us more than enough sleepin' room.. and can't hardly wait to try it out.. which we'll probably do this weekend goin' to Corsicana, Texas to pick at the American Legion there. then, the next weekend will be our last performance for a while at our little favorite place, Tootie's Bar & Grill, in North Louisiana..
things are lookin' up.. we're ready..
C U all on the road to Branson..

April 3rd...
Fastly approaching another Birtday..(Don).. don't even count 'em anymore..just glad to get another year older! Also.. gotta file taxes sometime in the next couple of days.. Damned Self-Employment stuff will mess you up!
Gettin' closer to Branson time!! Can't hardly wait to get up there and try somethin' different.. a new place to pick! Havin' fun pickin' for the great folks at Tootie's Bar in Louisiana.. but we need to branch out! The "new" van is gonna be nice for the trips..
Got two new "tools of the trade" today.. Traded some old semi-valuable stuff for an almost brand new Epiphone Model SG-400..one of my favorite guitars.. at our "still favorite" Music Store, Action Sound.. now in Hawkins, Texas, but worth the drive. Also won an Ebay auction earlier today for a brand new Yamaha Keyboard for Sue.. We needed that badly... for a more fuller sound..
Y'all keep watchin'.. we're almost on the road North soon!
